Long Fist (Chang Quan) is the general term used for several schools
of martial arts, including Cha Quan (Cha-family boxing), Paochui
(cannon boxing), Hong-family boxing (red style boxing), Shaolin
boxing, Praying Mantis, and Fanzi Quan (tumbling boxing). Long Fist
is characterized by expansive and graceful movements and
postures, agility, and speed. Long Fist practitioners fight to the
extreme length of their arm. They move rapidly, jump high and far,
and display power that is explosive and fluid.
Traditional Shaolin Kung Fu, as mentioned above, is part of the long
fist (Chang Quan) family. The movements, like stepping, kicking and
punching can be short, simple and versatile. While fighting in the
Shaolin style, one advances and retreats in a straight line, making
the style simple, fast, and effective.
Eagle Claw (Yingzhao Quan) is a mixture of 108 techniques
developed by Yue Fei and Fanzi Quan. It originated as a military style
by generals and was taught to soldiers in case they were unarmed.
This allowed an unarmed soldier to combat against an armed
opponent. Later, a monk named Li Quan added the style of Fanzi
Quan to complete this system. As its name implies, Eagle Claw uses a
devastating claw, pressure point strikes, as well as punching, kicking
and throwing.
